This quarter our Honors Program hosted its annual Senior Banquet, in which we celebrated our graduating students by giggling over their baby pictures and handing out awards over pasta.
The Old Spaghetti Factory hosted this year’s party, and the prospect of free food drew a big crowd. Students from every class came to bid our graduating seniors adieu, and faculty that taught Honors classes in every year were there as well.
I, a Junior this year, had the opportunity to catch up with teachers that taught my very first Honors classes. Dr. Motschiedler, one of the co-teachers of “The Scientific Processes” (one of the harder Honors classes that still haunts my dreams!), was there. I had the chance to catch up with her and update her on how my classes have been going since taking her class my Freshman year. Many people had this chance to catch up with past professors and mentors while being nostalgic for our time at La Sierra.
I am only a Junior, so this banquet was not a goodbye for me. But I couldn’t help but look at the soon to be graduates and think that this will be me next year. My time at La Sierra is coming to an end. Already. This thought is both horrifying and exciting. I am definitely looking forward to what is next, but I am not ready to go. I will miss so many people here and am scared to go out on my own. La Sierra and the Honors Program especially have felt like a family to me. The seniors expressed similar sentiments as they gobbled down the last of their pistachio ice cream. The Senior Banquet was a success, and succeeded in really driving home how quickly graduation will be upon us. I have so much work to do.
