After a long journey upended by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, our Honors senior cohort (Class of 2022) will finally move their tassels from left to right at this June’s commencement ceremony. Next year, our graduating seniors will be heading to the following locations:

  • Loma Linda University – School of Allied Health Professions, including Occupational Therapy
  • Loma Linda University – School of Medicine
  • San Francisco State University – Philosophy

Others have plans to take a gap year, travel the world, complete a mission trip, and focus on gaining experience in their fields in the form of internships and jobs. One graduate will be performing neurobiological and computational neuroscience research at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in association with the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) within the National Institute of Health (NIH). Another student received a job at a start-up company in Silicon Valley.

Two of our seniors kindly shared some valuable advice for the rest of the Honors cohorts:

Daniel C. Bazan, future physician-scientist:

“If you’re not doing what you love, don’t do it. In the pursuit of pleasing those around you, you find yourself sacrificing your integrity, moral compass, and ethical standard to gain a title you don’t want; no matter where you end up, disappointment and dissatisfaction will follow. Instead, lean onto the opportunities God reveals to you and give all your efforts to Him.”

Uylae Kim, future physician:

“People won’t remember you for the number of times you failed but by the one time you finally succeeded. So, don’t let that bad test score, failed experiment, or life mistake stop you from being the best you and pursuing your passion. In every circumstance, remember to be thankful for the life God has given you.”
